Dr. Gabriela Avila Leads Wetlab on PRESERFLO™ MicroShunt with Glaucoma Fellows

Dr. Avila organized and led a Wetlab where fellows practiced the PRESERFLO™ implantation procedure. This innovative implant is designed to reduce intraocular pressure in glaucoma patients.

Recently, Dr. Gabriela Avila, our specialist in Glaucoma, Cataract, and Refractive Surgery, led a Wetlab training session for our Glaucoma Fellowship students on the innovative PRESERFLO™ MicroShunt—a breakthrough implant designed to help patients suffering from glaucoma.

The Importance of Innovative Glaucoma Treatments

Glaucoma occurs when the optic nerve becomes damaged due to elevated intraocular pressure (IOP). If left untreated, this pressure can lead to progressive vision loss and even blindness. The PRESERFLO™ MicroShunt is an advanced drainage system designed to effectively lower IOP in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma, helping to protect their vision.

Hands-On Training for Future Specialists

During the Wetlab, our Glaucoma Fellowship students participated in a comprehensive training session that included:

  • A lecture on the PRESERFLO™ MicroShunt, including its benefits and clinical outcomes.
  • Hands-on practice with the device, allowing fellows to refine their skills in a realistic surgical setting.
